Before hibi was introduced in 2015, there was a period 3,5 years of trial and error. The precise recipe of incense and washi pulp, so a matchstick would be hard enough, and would have the exact amount of incense to have a perfect intense scent for 10 minutes. Made in Japan, in the Hyogo prefecture.
Japanese incense is very brittle. The incense sticks from hibi has a little washi pulp in it, making the matches just hard enough to strike. It may look like an ordinary wooden match, but it is definitely not.
